In a TikTok video that has gone viral, an airline pilot refuses to take off until the passenger in question stops AirDrop intimate photos.

AirDrop, Apple’s feature that makes it easy to share content between iPhone, Mac and iPad, sometimes has nasty surprises. In fact, especially in public places, some users use it to send explicit images to strangers who would have been reckless not to disable this feature.

This was the case at the departure of a flight from the American company Southwest Airlines to Cabo (Mexico) during which a passenger was guilty of this inappropriate gesture, recalls NBC News on Thursday, September 1. A situation taken very seriously by the pilot of the plane. “I don’t care what AirDrop is, just stop sending nude photos of yourself,” she told the author, anonymously, through the device’s speakers.

“Turn off your AirDrop in public”

Captured on video and shared on TikTok by Taylor Marsalis, a user of the Chinese platform who was on the flight, this unusual announcement went viral with 2.8 million views on Wednesday, August 31. Questioned later by the Insider medium, Taylor Marsalis estimated “that the pilot had managed the situation perfectly.”

The initiative was also welcomed by his employer, Southwest Airlines, which, through its spokesman, released a statement to NBC News. “The safety, security and well-being of our customers and employees is the top priority of the Southwest Airlines team at all times. When they learn of a potential problem, our employees strive to remedy it to ensure the comfort of those traveling with us.”

Sending intimate photos via AirDrop is not a new phenomenon. To avoid falling victim to this type of misadventure, it is possible to reject a file distributed in this way. However, the preview of the received file, which is displayed on the screen, is large enough to clearly see the photo.

Therefore, one of the solutions is to set the feature to be discoverable only by the contacts saved in your directory. To do this, go to the Settings app, then General, then AirDrop. Otherwise, just follow the advice a TikTok user offered in one of Taylor Marsalis’s video comments: “Turn off your AirDrop in public, ESPECIALLY at airports.”
