“Total is not just a crisis profiteer – its profits are made in human lives by supplying fuel to Russian planes […]This incriminating statement, shared on Thursday, August 25 in a tweet by LFI MP Manon Aubry, was found, embedded, this Thursday, September 1, in the meta description tag of the TotalEnergies website.
Shameful for the French company, this situation is due to Google. Total initially responded to the incriminating tweet. However, the latter also appeared in the dedicated social media feed integrated into the home page of its website.
The latter was then indexed by Google and the tweet ended up in a search result with the query “Total”. According to Sylvain Laneyrie, director of SEO at agency Eskimoz, TotalEnergies attempted to remove the incriminating tweet, as well as the Twitter feed affiliated with its site’s home page. In vain. “Especially they returned to request the indexing of the page by Google (well I imagine)”, he supposes. TotalEnergies reacted this Thursday, September 1.
