Three people were stabbed this morning in central London. According to police, the case took place near Liverpool Street tube station at around 09:46 local time (5:46 GMT). Authorities said they were looking for the two suspects and that the stabbing occurred after an attempted robbery, not evidence of an act of terrorism, according to the investigation.
No one has been arrested so far. According to the British newspaper The Independent, the suspects fled from Bishopsgate, near a busy train station.
According to police, three people were stabbed and a fourth was pushed to the ground. Three people, who were taken to the hospital without injury in the accident, were treated by the medical teams who came to the scene.
A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service said: “Our teams have treated four patients. We have already taken three of these patients to the hospital and one has been evaluated on site and released.”
Police inspector Steve Heatley said authorities ruled out the possibility of terrorism. “Two suspects are sought and not treated as terrorist-related as part of the ongoing investigation into attempted phone theft.”
A local shopkeeper said he saw the suspects before the attack. Sayeed Duknwala, 53, told MyLondon, “A man was running around shouting ‘hello’. A few minutes later there were four men on the ground.”
Police said investigations are continuing. “At 9:46 am we received reports of three stabbings and one person being pushed to the ground in Bishopsgate. Police arrived at the scene at 9:51 am. Three victims were taken away by LAS. [Serviço de Ambulância de Londres] to a nearby hospital for treatment. This is an ongoing situation, but it is not being treated in connection with terrorism.”
