The phenomenon, where massive figures, mostly geometric, can be seen from above, is present in various parts of the world, like the one that emerged this week in Santa Catarina, Brazil. It is divided into two types. Geoglyphs in which figures are drawn on the ground, on hills or flat areas, and agroglyphs created by “flattening” plantations.
Geoglyphs are largely concentrated in Peru, especially in the region of the Nazca lines. They were located in Acre, in the middle of the Amazon region, in Brazil. But countries like Australia, Bolivia, Chile, the United States, and the United Kingdom have records of these enormous shapes seen from the sky.
The UK, meanwhile, is championing the emergence of crop circles as recorded this week in Santa Catarina. Although it is not known exactly who created them or why they exist, it is a fact that they arouse curiosity in people with their forms and symbolism. Meet some of them:
Farms in the Amazon
Overflights in Acre in 2009 showed some of the more than 800 geoglyphs mapped in the Amazon. Many are now destroyed or threatened by the expansion of agribusiness.
The first geoglyph of Akka was found in 1977 in research led by Professor Ondemar Dias of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. According to researcher Alceu Ranzi, the figures are artifacts of a people who lived in the area long before Cabral’s arrival and therefore must be preserved and preserved for future generations.
Records in Peru
Two geoglyphs of extraordinary sprawling disk shape were analyzed by Italian researcher Amelia Carolina Sparavigna in Puno, Peru, using satellite images. She found that most circular figures had mathematical connotations that could be related to astronomy or places of worship.
In his research, he added that the figures unearthed must be around 1,500 years old. One of them is perfectly circumscribed and has many ray-shaped lines, but about half of the 100-metre-diameter disc has been destroyed.
Templar Cross in France
The emergence of a giant symbol in a wheat field in 2020 attracted the attention of those who saw it in Vimy, France. The origin of the crop circle has already generated a lot of speculation. Some people believe this is a reference to the Knights Templar and the city’s turbulent past that was devastated in the First World War.
Mandala, Switzerland
In 2012, a mandala-shaped crop circle appeared in a wheat field near the Guntmatingen/Löhningen level crossing in Schaffhausen, Switzerland. In the same year, mysterious patterns appeared in the fields in the community of Büsingen, not far from the vicinity of Schaffhausen.
apartment in Hungary
On the night of June 8, 1992, a 36-metre diameter crop circle appeared in a wheat field near Szekesfehervar, 70 kilometers southwest of Budapest. The circle was discovered on 26 June by Laszlo Otvos, a marine rescue helicopter pilot who reported to the media that he had seen it.
triskelion in England
This huge 240-foot crop circle originated in 2001 in the remote Milk Hill area of Wiltshire, England. The elaborate design consists of 409 circles that form a pattern called a double or six-sided triskelion, a motif of three intertwined spirals.
The triskelion is the Celtic symbol that defines four European regions: Brittany, Isle of Man, Galicia, and Sicily. Its meanings include seeking balance between body, mind and spirit, or between past, present and future.
