German Christian Brueckner, the main suspect in the Madeleine McCann case, was prosecuted legally by a Portuguese court, accused of committing five sexual offenses between December 2000 and June 11, 2017. Portuguese newspaper, none of this is about the girl’s disappearance. reported.
The Braunschweig Public Ministry said in a statement to the media that German investigators suspect the 45-year-old man killed Madeleine after he abducted her from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, on May 3, 2007.
Brueckner was charged with three counts of rape and two counts of child sexual abuse.
The crimes were committed while the suspect lived between Germany and Portugal and had an extended stay in Portugal’s Algarve region.
One of the victims is Irish Hazel Behan, who requested a reopening of the case in Portugal after noticing the similarities between what happened to her and the rape of a 72-year-old American in Praia da Luz. The identities of the other victims were not released.
An excerpt from the Braunschweig prosecutor’s statement reads: “The defendant is the same person who was charged with the disappearance of the then 3-year-old British girl Madeleine Beth McCann.”
Christian Brueckner was officially declared a suspect in the Maddie case by Portuguese authorities last month. It has been investigated by German authorities for two years.
