A 5.4-magnitude earthquake shook southern Peru on Saturday (29), causing fear among the population, but there was no immediate record of casualties or damage, the National Seismological Center reported.
The earthquake was recorded at 15:45 local time (17:45 GMT), with its epicenter at a depth of 21 km in the Pacific Ocean and 84 km southwest of the city of Ica, located on the coast of the region of the same name. According to the report, it’s 400km south of Lima.
The Naval Hydrographic and Navigation Directorate prevented the occurrence of tsunamis due to seven earthquakes (5.4 to 4 degrees) recorded in the Ica region in the last 16 hours.
On Friday, 16 earthquakes of up to 5.9 degrees were recorded in the same region in the south of the country.
