A bar in Stokesley, England, used social media to denounce a group of six customers who fled through the back doors after consuming £273 (equivalent to R$1,600) in lobster, steak and beverages.
The case was recorded Thursday night (27). A few hours after the breakout, Sutton Arms, where the breakout was recorded, posted a photo of its Facebook account, asking people to come back with obvious understanding.
The restaurant’s profile said, “I think you were confused, you thought someone else paid the bill and left. We tried to contact them via social networks, but they didn’t respond.”
Photo of the bill shows the group consuming three steaks, three lobsters, a serving of onion rings and 70 pounds (430 R$) in drinks.
Appeal on social networks. The restaurant manager asked, “Please go back to payment. You can even put the money in the mailbox. If you don’t pay, we will hand over the security footage to the police and post it on social media.”
Although the image of the account was shared more than 1,900 on social media, customers did not bring the money and a video of them running away was released by the restaurant.
In the image, it is possible to see a young woman with her cell phone waiting for the rest of the group. Two men come running and the trio leaves. Fifteen seconds later, a pair runs out and the last owner of the table appears. Everyone leaves.
The posting of the video on social networks produced a series of biased comments about the origin of customers who avoided followers.
One person says, “They’re ‘gypsies’. They shouldn’t even be able to enter the restaurant.” Another calls them “chavs,” a derogatory term used by the British for lower-class youth.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, the owner of the restaurant said the group had planned a trip to the venue in advance and requested that steaks and lobsters be reserved.
He said the loss was big and the profit margin of the bar was small. “We try to keep prices low. It’s a nightmare when something like this happens,” he said.
