A fish that was born female and became a male over the years has been classified as a new species in the Maldives region. It was already known to science, but by that time it was considered a variation of another species. Only now researchers hope for reefs of the Academy of Sciences California (United States) differentiated and pink fairy wrasse (Cirrilabrus finifenmaa).
According to the news of the British newspaper The Guardian, the species, which has a colorful body and the length of a human finger, lives in groups on reefs in the Indian Ocean at depths ranging from 40 to 70 meters.
As the fish ages, it changes its appearance and gender. They start life as females and mature when they gain more colors and become like rainbows.
Colors are more pronounced during mating season as a way to attract females.
