Shanghai Disney Resort, a complex that includes the amusement park, abruptly suspended operations today to comply with Covid-19 containment measures. Visitors who were at the park at the time of the announcement were told to stay in the park until the virus test came back negative.
The resort announced that surrounding areas, including the main theme park and shopping street, are closed immediately until further notice, to comply with the restrictions imposed by Covid-19. The organization reported on Saturday that it had begun operating with a reduced workforce to comply with the measures. Shanghai reported 10 locally transmitted cases in people without symptoms on 30 October.
The Shanghai government said on its official WeChat account that the park is preventing people from entering or leaving, and that all visitors must wait for test results before leaving the establishments.
In addition, anyone who has visited the park since October 27 will have to be tested three times in three days, according to the government.
According to CNN, the park continues to offer rides for visitors stranded at the park today at the time of closure.
At Shanghai Disney Resort, a spokesperson said the resort is still operating with “limited offers” and is following precautions as per Chinese health authorities’ guidelines.
The shutdown marks the latest disruption to activities at the Disney Resort, which had been closed for more than three months during the Shanghai quarantine earlier this year.
The park was also closed for two days in November last year, leaving more than 30,000 visitors stranded after authorities ordered all of them tested in a contact tracing operation.
