After five and a half years of searching, police found the alleged murderer of two 13- and 14-year-old teenagers murdered in 2017. The shocking case caused a stir in the United States.
Richard Allen, 50, was accused of killing 13-year-old Abigail Williams and her friend Liberty German, 14. The young women had gone for a walk on February 13, 2017 through a wooded area of Indiana and were reportedly intercepted by the recently arrested man there.
Allen, a married father of two and a CVS technician, was arrested Friday and charged with two counts of murder.
Libby’s father went to meet them at the edge of the woods, as agreed, but the boys never made it to the meeting point. The girls’ families reported him missing and the bodies were found the next day, February 14, less than a kilometer from where they had been seen.
In 2021, local police released a Snapchat video found on Liberty’s phone. There you can see a man dressed in jeans, a blue jacket and a hood. A male voice is heard pronouncing the words “girls” and “downhill”.
Police believe the video was shot just before the killings occurred and praised the girls for documenting it as evidence. It is believed that this footage was crucial, five years after the double murder, to stop Allen.
In December last year, the Indiana State Police revealed that a fake social media account may have been used to lure girls to stroll in what is commonly It is known as catfishing (or identity theft).
More details surfaced in May when hosts of The Murder Sheet investigative podcast obtained court documents suggesting the girls’ bodies had been staged and that the killer could have taken memorabilia from the murder.
