White House national security spokesman John Kirby said on Wednesday that the United States had information showing that North Korea had secretly supplied Russia with a “significant” number of artillery shells for the war in Ukraine.
Kirby said in a virtual briefing that North Korea is trying to hide remittances by flowing them through countries in the Middle East and North Africa.
“Our indications are that the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea is supplying covertly and we will check to see if the shipments are received,” Kirby said. Kirby said, adding that Washington will consult the United Nations regarding the responsibility of the shipments.
“We have an idea of where they’re going to transfer these shells,” Kirby said, but declined to give details as the US considered possible options.
Kirby said the amount of bullets is not insignificant, but it is unlikely to change the strength or outcome of the battle. But they could still be deadly for Ukrainians, he said.
