The study on the main causes of death in the United States is a kick-off to start prevention and awareness measures on various diseases.
For this survey carried out by the specialized site Intramed, the final data were obtained from the death certificates of the people who died between 2020 and 2021.
Based on this information, the five leading causes of death by age group were determined in each of those years.
The main causes of death
The conclusions were the following. There were 2,875 million deaths from March to December 2020 and 2,855 million deaths from January to October 2021.
It was also established that, among those over one year of age, the number of deaths increased in all age groups. This increase would strongly correlate with the severity of the pandemic.
The reasons for death? During the entire period, heart disease (by 20.1%), cancer (17.5%), COVID-19 (12.2%), accidents (6.2%) and strokes (4 , 7%) were the most frequent causes of death in that country.
While there were some differences based on age. Deaths from cancer, heart disease, and COVID-19 accounted for the largest number of deaths in any population group aged 55 and over.
Among people aged 85 and over, COVID-19 was ranked as the second leading cause of death in 2020 and third in 2021. The implementation of vaccines has driven this positive change.
For its part, among people aged 45 to 54, COVID-19 was the fourth leading cause of death in 2020; and in 2021, however, it was the leading cause of death. This would speak of less preventive care and the decision to put aside social isolation.
In both periodsaccidents accounted for the largest number of deaths in each age group from 1 to 44 years.

With these conclusions it is possible to implement basic preventive measures. Between them:
– Carry out periodic checks. They allow to detect pathologies or diseases in time. In many cases, early diagnosis is the best alternative to having the maximum chance of cure.
– Follow a diet with abundant vegetables. They provide the nutrients needed to maintain good health.
– Find a healthy weight. It will remove serious health situations.
– Avoid tobacco, other drugs and excessive alcohol consumption.
