Similar demonstrations, called by political groups and NGOs, took place in the cities of Piura, Chiclayo, Cusco and Arequipa.
The actions take place 15 days after the arrival of a high-level Commission from the Organization of American States (OAS) to analyze the acute political crisis in Peru.
At the same time, collectives and unions marched in support of the president in San Martín square in the capital, Lima.
Castillo, a 53-year-old rural teacher, denies his family’s crimes and says he was the victim of a campaign to oust him from power.
