The Ushuaia Relief Commission released new footage of the rescue of Dennis Cosmo Marín on Saturday (5). A 37-year-old Brazilian tourist died when an ice sheet struck him in Jimbo Cave in southern Argentina.
The video, which the commission posted on social media, brings together photos and films of Marín’s rescue. At one point it is possible to see the Brazilian’s body being removed by a group of brigades from an ice-covered mountain range.
According to the commission, the operation took 10 hours in total. Forty firefighters were deployed between 16:00 on November 2, when the alarm was raised, and 02:30 on the next day when the work was completed.
Marín was the victim of a head injury. Since 2021, the City has warned visitors and residents to ban entering the cave, based on scientific studies showing that the site is at risk of collapse.
Jimbo Cave is located 3,100 kilometers south of the Argentine capital, in an area of outstanding natural beauty within the Tierra del Fuego National Park.
