Justice in their own hands: neighbors lynch two thieves

Residents of the city of Bogotá, in the La Felicidad neighborhood, brutally beat two criminals they accuse of robbery and injury to a minor. Tired of insecurity, they did justice for themselves when they were able to reach two thieves who they accused of committing permanent crimes in the area. The images of the beating went viral on social media.

One of the videos was recorded from a building and shows how people drag thieves from the platform into the middle of a public road. where they began to beat them with different objects such as: motorcycle helmets, sticks, punches and kicks.

Under the intended name of “palotherapy”, spread the brutal blows towards the criminals. This happened in the La Felicidad neighborhood of the town of Fontibón, where they managed to arrest two alleged thieves and beat them without saying a word. In the videos you can see how more and more people walk by and punch, kick, hit with helmets, sticks and whatever find their way.

As you can hear in one of the videos shared on social media, the criminals allegedly wounded a minor with a knife, provoking the violent response of Colombian neighbors.

In the recordings you can see how one of the criminals lies on the side of a bridge while another is severely beaten and shouts “help”.

In another of the viral videos, we see the moment when several people drag one of the men from a platform across an avenue until they drop him on a separator to continue beating him.

Insecurity in Bogota

According to the latest report from the local Security Secretariat, more than two thousand vehicles are stolen in the city of Bogoá. The registry was carried out from January to August of this year and highlights the different ways in which criminals operate and guide 10 robberies a day.

There are frequent complaints filed by neighbors to the Bogotá Metropolitan Police for the crime of theft of their cars, those affected have indicated that the thieves are armed and steal everything. On some occasions the victims are forced to remain inside the car and then be abandoned in desolate places without their personal effects.

According to data from the Bogota Security Secretariat, 2,254 vehicles have been stolen so far in 2022, in August the figure was 292, resulting in the theft of about 10 cars a day. Not to mention the thefts of motorcycles which, apparently, are generated more frequently in the city.
