An 18-year-old was arrested after he broke the news of the armed robbery and interrupted the action minutes later, allegedly saying it was “a joke for a YouTube video”. The case was registered in the US state of Georgia (3) on Thursday. The young man was charged with attempted armed robbery.
Security footage shows the suspect, identified as Brandon McMahon, wearing a hoodie, mask and sunglasses. He enters an e-cigarette shop and comes to the clerk with a gun in his hand. After the thief asks the clerk to buy something from the store, he takes off the accessories that cover his face and starts laughing. “Dude, this is not funny,” the employee responds.
Contrary to Brandon’s claim, the police did not see the action as a joke. Researcher Jay Baker said in an interview with local broadcaster Fox that there is no evidence that anyone else recorded the act. Also, as the young man claims, the boy does not have a YouTube channel on which to “joke”.
“It was a real armed robbery, in which he changed his mind during the action, tried to play and tried to get out of the picture,” the officer said. As Brandon removed his mask at the time of the crime, authorities took a snapshot of the suspect’s face and asked the community to help identify him.
On the recording, the suspect claims to have used “just an airsoft gun”. However, when officers searched the young man’s home, they found .357 pistols, not copies. Police believe it was the pistol used during the crime.
