In several cities, including Miami and others with large Latin populations, the lines at the polling stations began to form before 8 am.

Those who have not already voted by correspondence or in the early voting ended last Sunday, had 12 hours to go to the polls or leave the ballot in the special mailboxes to vote by mail.

In addition to the offices involved, including that of governor, Floridians were called upon to do so decide on three amendments to the State Constitution. They refer to tax breaks for people renovating their homes to prevent floods, the future of the Constitutional Review Commission and measures to address the lack of affordable housing.

At least a 60% favorable vote is required for the approval of these amendments.

In addition, a large number of local initiatives were presented which were subjected to consultation in these elections.

Polls indicate this the Republican Party can have a resounding victory and that Florida can go from being a “hinge” state without a fixed voting pattern to becoming a conservative stronghold.

Governor Ron DeSantis is also expected to comfortably win re-election over Democrat Charlie Crist, who served as a Republican from 2007 to 2011.

Another sign of this is that in Florida there are more voters registered as Republicans than Democrats for this election and more Republicans who voted earlier than the Democrats.

Vote for Donald Trump

In the last two presidential elections, in 2016 and 2020, Florida overwhelmingly voted for Republican Donald Trump and for two decades there has been no democratic governor.

If the polls are correct, DeSantis will also expand the majority he enjoys in the state Congress and this has allowed him to move forward. controversial initiatives such as regulations that prohibit talking about gender identity in primary schools and reduce the period for legal abortion to 15 weeks of pregnancy (up from 24).

Even the other most important position at stake in these elections, that in the Senate held by the Republican Marco Rubio, seems to be assured, according to the polls, which give him an advantage of about seven points over the Democrat Val Demings.

Trump, the most famous of Florida’s residents, was supposed to vote in an election district in West Palm Beach, the city near Mar-a-Lago, his mansion on exclusive Palm Beach Island, and called on the press to accompany him. .

At an event in Ohio on Monday, the former president said he will make a “big announcement” next week in Florida.

On several occasions he has mentioned it consider the possibility of a third presidential candidacy on the last day of the election campaign before the mid-term elections.

“I’m going to make a big announcement on Tuesday, November 15 in Mar-a-Lago,” Trump told a cheering crowd in Vandalia, Ohio.
