A tunnel at a depth of 15 meters at the site of the Taposiris Magna temple in Egypt may be further evidence leading experts to Cleopatra’s tomb.
The discovery was made by researchers at the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic during excavations at the Taposiris Magna Temple near the ancient city of Alexandria.
The information was released Friday by the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities (4).
The finds were made about two months ago, and the tunnel, which also functions as an aqueduct, is more than 1.3 kilometers long, according to the agency.
The inscriptions found on the tunnel walls are being studied by researchers. Two alabaster sphinx heads and a Ptolemaic statue were also found and are under expert examination.
Researchers said the tunnel is an “exact replica” of the Eupalino Tunnel in Greece, which is considered a UNESCO Cultural Heritage Site.

The placement of the tunnel within the walls of the temple is considered a sign that the tomb of Mark Antony, the last queen of Egypt and her lover, may be under the temple.
“This tunnel is extremely important. It is 270 meters longer than the Eupalinos tunnel and stretches from Lake Mariout to the Mediterranean,” researcher Kathleen Martinez told the Egyptian newspaper Ahram Online.
He and the Egyptian government described the find as an “architectural marvel”.
“After three months of exploring the site, I realized that this was the perfect place for Cleopatra’s tomb. No one had come up with the idea before, but if there’s a 1% chance that the last queen of Egypt is buried there, it’s mine. in an interview he did.
