Two twin sisters from Texas in the United States were recognized by the Guinness Book of Records as the most different in the world. Besides the appearance, the publication also highlights the differences in measurement between them: the Sierra is 1.70 m tall and 44 kg, while the Sienna is 1.32 m and 22.6 kg.

The difference between them is because the younger sister was diagnosed with primitive dwarfism, which classifies them both as mismatched twins. So during pregnancy, there was a rare form of twinning where fetuses had different sizes and weights.

According to the Guinness World Records website, the chances of one of the twins being born with the condition are very slim and cases like this were unknown to the scientific community.

Sienna was also born with Dandy-Walker syndrome, which causes abnormal brain growth.

The Bernal brothers are currently 23 years old. They share the same hair color and physical features on their faces.

The residents of the town of Tomball are the only ones known to have such a large difference between the twins, weight and height.

Anne Chrissy Bernal said in an interview with ABC News that when Sienna was born, her development was delayed by almost six weeks compared to her sister. She knew she was going to have twins while she was still pregnant, but heard from doctors that she had different growths.

“The doctors said, ‘You’re going to have twins, but we need to talk about baby B.’ I had to absorb this information too quickly and worry about dealing with it. [Sienna]being very small,” said Chrissy.

“Dwarfism wasn’t something they thought was a possibility, I guess because they still had proportional measurements,” Chrissy recalled.

Sienna was hospitalized a few weeks after giving birth. Chrissy recalled that the doctors had told her family that Sienna had a 10% chance of surviving in the next 24 hours.

“They said that if he gets out of the hospital, he’ll probably be in a vegetative state,” said the mother.

Dwarfism was discovered only when the girl was 6 years old after a diagnosis by a geneticist.

Twenty years later, the sisters say they are as close as any other identical twin and have always supported each other.

Sierra admits to being “extremely protective” of Sienna, and she thinks that “makes her a little more cheeky because she knows her sister will take care of her if there’s a problem”.

“I don’t remember noticing any difference. We were born into the situation we’re in, so we didn’t know anything different until we grew up,” Sierra said.

‘They treat me like a child’

Sienna cites her older sister as her biggest source of support, as she is annoyed by strangers treating her like a child.

“is there [Sierra] it helped me with my emotions, I learned to control my anger with it. Sometimes they think Sierra is my sister and they treat me differently. I’m not a child. When they talk to me like a child and ask how I am, I say, ‘I’m fine and I’m 23 years old.

Sierra is an aspiring country singer and claims her twin has shaped not only her worldview but her music as well.

“Having Sienna as my sister has allowed me to evolve faster than I thought I could have on my own,” Sierra said.
