Espinosa Tecuapetla, born in the city of Puebla, is the father of five children, one of whom is an engineer. Since his wife’s death he has lived alone.

The man of 1.59 meters, at a slow pace, leaning on a stick, still carries a large bag with his things on his shoulder. In the last four years of his studies, he hasn’t stopped working. However, when he can, he sells onions, lemons, avocados and tomatoes at the local market.

He is the oldest university student, perhaps in the history of the highest house of studies in Puebla. He is a lonely but self-sufficient man: “I see well, I hear well, I reason well. This is my great capital and what feeds me is work and enthusiasm, ”he says.

Studying for four years with students 60 years his junior has never been a hindrance. “On the contrary, they helped me a lot. But what motivated me was my improvement, it was the engine. I always had the clarity to finish the race”, he tells local media.

A school day for four years involved waking up at 4:30 am, taking two buses and traveling for two hours round trip. “We remain guests so as not to be absent”, moreover, “life is daily, right? Today yes, tomorrow no ”, she expresses.

Perseverance and responsibility are two traits with which his masters qualify and remember him. Although he was not a 10-year-old student, for nine semesters he did his homework, despite being over 80 years old.

about your future, the 84-year-old recent graduate wants to continue his studies and could opt for a master’s degree, as the exercise of learning new knowledge keeps him alive and with great joy. “There is no more to continue with the effort. It may be that he continues to study because, in truth, he is very good, ”he said. “Actually, only death will stop me.”
