29-year-old American Taylor Parker was sentenced to death for killing her pregnant 21-year-old friend and taking her unborn baby, who later died. The sentence was announced Thursday (10) in Texas, according to ABC News.
According to the Texarkana Newspaper, in 2020, Reagan Simmons-Hancock was stabbed 100 times in the abdomen and pulled the baby out of the womb. Braxlynn was about seven and a half months pregnant with their daughter, who would become Sage Hancock.
According to the court, Parker told her boyfriend and others she was pregnant and held a gender reveal party. On October 9, 2020, she announced that she was going to a hospital in Idabel, Oklahoma to pre-register for induced labor.
That same morning, police in New Boston, Texas received a call from a woman that one of them had killed her daughter.
Officers found Simmons with a large cleft in her stomach, and the baby was no longer in her womb.
Texas police searched and found Taylor Parker holding a baby in her arms. According to the agents’ testimony, the umbilical cord was still attached to the baby, and it seemed to protrude from the woman as if she had given birth.
Parker and the baby were taken to the hospital in Idabel, where hospital staff reported that Parker had not given birth to the child. Parker later admitted that he had smuggled the fetus out of the victim’s body, claiming it was “after the fight.”
Authorities determined that Parker caused the death of Simmons and her baby. According to statistics from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Parker became one of seven women on the death row in Texas with the death penalty.
“We are so grateful that justice has been served today, not just for our family, friends, the prosecution team, and our community,” Jessica Brooks, the victim’s mother, told CNN. The trial lasted 25 days and was attended by 142 witnesses.
