But in what some imagine as Rosie’s ‘smart move’, she showed up alone in the police squad trying to reunite with her grieving owner.

A CCTV camera captured the stunning moment when 10-year-old border collie Rosie walked through the automatic doors of Loughborough Police Station and waited to be seen, reports Mirror.

Guilty, the fireworks

The story goes that 68-year-old Steve Harper had been taking his dog Rosie for a walk in Loughborough, Leicestershire on November 3 when she was suddenly startled by fireworks and ran off.

Steve panicked when, after desperately looking for her, he saw that Rosie wasn’t coming home. “She’s really scared of fireworks. She ran away and I never saw her again,” Steve said.

“I thought I’d find her curled up under the fence of the house and be able to calm her down, it ended up going alone to the municipal offices and when I arrived she was gone and couldn’t be seen anywhere”.

But the images taken by the closed circuit television installed in the police station and the phone call from the carabinieri to the owner showed a happy ending: in the video Rosie is seen walking through the entrance to the police station before going to bed near the doors.

The police officers were stunned when they saw her coming. After checking her necklace, which had her owner’s name and number on it, they called Steve to let him know Rosie was safe.

While the black-and-white dog waited for a ride home, she took a sip of water and was petted by the staff, she says. Mirror.

Steve’s wife Julie, 62, said: ‘I was so content and happy that she was safe and so proud of her that she was smart enough to find her way to the police station.’

And she says her husband Steve always takes her to Southfields Park, which is closed but that’s not enough, so she plays chasing a ball and squirrels.

According to the lady, the husband takes Rosie to the local park with his other dog, Laser. And the dog, since she doesn’t like loud noises, the fireworks scared her and she ran away.

“Steve was upset, he thought he had lost her. He was looking for her but he couldn’t see her. The police phoned and asked if we had a black and white collie and if he had turned himself in,” she recalls.

What scares Rosie the most are thunderstorms, fireworks and even loud music, causing her to dive behind the sofa.

A spokesman for Leicestershire Police said: “Luckily she was wearing a collar so a leash was available to contact Rosie’s owner who was delighted she was found safe and sound.”

“What a lovely intelligent dog. Our staff went to get Rosie some water and they quickly became friends with much fanfare,” police officials said.

The CCTV footage was shared on Facebook, where it attracted thousands of views from stunned animal lovers.

“He clearly followed directions to the nearest stray dog,” one person joked, while another said, “Obviously he wants to be a police dog.”
