European Council President Charles Michel announced on Tuesday that he will request a “coordination meeting” of European Union (EU) leaders present at the G20 summit in Indonesia to discuss the situation in Poland.
“I will propose a coordination meeting with EU leaders at the G20 here in Bali on Wednesday,” Michel said after reports of missiles launched in Poland during Russia’s bombing of Ukraine.
“I was shocked by the news that a missile or other ammunition had killed people on Polish soil. My condolences to their families,” tweeted Michel.
“I am in contact with Polish officials, members of the European Parliament and other allies,” he said.
The Council of Europe consists of the 27 member states of the European Union (EU) and defines the bloc’s guidelines.
The Polish government called an emergency meeting of the National Security Council to discuss the situation.
The Russian Ministry of Defense evaluated the information about the landing of Russian missiles on Polish soil as a “provocation”.
