Sunita Devi, a Hindu woman from Muzaffarpur in Bihar whose kidneys were allegedly illegally removed from a hospitalhe asked for the organs of the doctor involved to be transplanted.
The 38-year-old woman had visited a nursing home in Bariyarpur village in Muzaffarpur district to have her uterus removed on 3 September.
The shocking stolen kidney came to light after Devi’s condition deteriorated following surgery, and she was rushed to Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) in Muzaffarpur.
There, to the surprise of the family members, the doctors told them that Devi lacks kidneys and will not be able to survive without them.
Since then, Devi has survived or been on permanent dialysis.
“Since Sunita has no kidneys, if you don’t get dialysis even for a day, you could diesaid Dr BS Jha, superintendent of the hospital where the woman received treatment after her organs were stolen.
The doctor, fugitive
Following a complaint filed by Devi’s family, the police filed a complaint against Pawan Kumar, the owner of Subhakant Clinic, and Dr. RK Singh. I’ve been on the run since the incident came to light in September.
Police said the clinic was not open and the doctor’s title also appears to be false.
Devi is a mother of three children and the attending doctors said her condition is very critical.
Speaking on the victim’s condition, Dr Om Kumar, head of the Department of Nephrology and Kidney Transplant at IGIMS, told PTI in September: ‘She is on regular dialysis and her condition remains critical. She will need to undergo a kidney transplant. when his situation improves. His vitals are being closely monitored.”
Doctor’s kidneys
The woman had to register on the official list in India to get an organ transplant, which will only be done when donor kidneys are available there.
However, he asked the police to arrest the accused doctor and to give him his kidneys.
“I call on the government to immediately arrest the accused doctor who removed both of my kidneys. His kidneys need to be transplanted so I can survive.” She said.
