Elon Musk, owner and chairman of Twitter for three weeks, announced on Friday (18) that several accounts that were suspended on the platform were reinstated, but added that there is still no decision on the Donald Trump case.
Musk tweeted that the accounts of comedian Kathy Griffin, psychologist Jordan Peterson, and conservative parody site Babylon Bee have been “reinstated” but “haven’t made a decision about Trump yet.”
The billionaire was expelled from the platform shortly after his supporters attacked the Capitol on January 6, 2021, in an attempt to prevent his Democratic rival, Joe Biden, from receiving election certification as the winner of the 2020 election.
Musk’s announcement comes just three days after the former president announced his new candidacy for the White House for 2024, minutes before US Attorney General Merrick Garland announced that an independent prosecutor would be appointed to lead criminal investigations into Trump.
Canadian psychologist Jordan Peterson was suspended from Twitter in June after transgender actor Elliot Page violated the site’s rules on hateful behavior, before Musk bought the social network.
Peterson had made comments against the rights of transgender people, and Twitter asked him to remove the post about the Page.
“Twitter’s new policy is freedom of speech,” Musk tweeted on Friday, but “negative hate” messages will be “maximally demonized,” so “there will be no publicity or other gains for Twitter.”
“You won’t find this tweet, which is no different from the rest of the internet, unless you specifically search for it.”
