The White House again witnessed another wedding when this Saturday one of Joe Biden’s granddaughters got married with his partner in the presidential villa.
This is Naomi Biden, who married Peter Neal and together starred in the 19th wedding held at the presidential residence in what was a ceremony held without the presence of journalists and photographers.
The wedding took place in the morning, when the temperature was only five degrees. However, despite the cold, it was built in the southern garden area, a sector that had never been used for this purpose until now.
The place was conditioned by a large number of folding chairs for the guests – which were placed in the aforementioned space – and specially decorated for the occasion.
As detailed, too the south porch of the White House and the Washington Monument were decorated located in the distance, which had crowns and garlands of white flowers.
While the exact number of guests hasn’t been disclosed, they started arriving at the ceremony hours before the event was due to start. Among the costumes chosen, those of the women stood out, who participated elegantly and with open shoes despite the cold.
Unlike other weddings held at the presidential mansion in the past, the wedding of Biden’s niece was not open to the public.
Is that, by decision of the couple, it was decided to exclude journalists and photographers, who complained that it was an “open-air ceremony in the premises of what the president and first lady call ‘the home of the people ””.
This was the first major event of its kind to be held at the White House since then-President George W. Bush (2001-2009) hosted a reception for his daughter Jenna in 2008, one month before her wedding to Henry Hager, whom she married on the family ranch in Texas.
On this occasion, Naomi Biden, 28, announced her decision to get married at the end of July in a message on Twitter which she illustrated with an image of the garden, a green esplanade surrounded by trees and overlooking the obelisk.
“I’m not sure of the best way to break the news that I should have delivered weeks ago…but we have finally decided where the ceremony will be held…and to the relief of the Secret Service and with the support of (the president’s) dogs. We’re getting married on South Lawn! I couldn’t be more excited,” Biden’s niece tweeted.
Naomi’s grandmother and first lady, Jill Biden, had already announced in April that the White House would host her granddaughter’s wedding reception, although until then it was unknown if the ceremony would also take place in the presidential mansion.
Biden has seven grandchildren and Naomi is the eldest. She is the daughter of Hunter Biden, who has been involved in controversies in the past and who was used as a political weapon by then US President Donald Trump (2017-2021) during the 2020 election campaign for his ties to a Ukrainian energy company .
