Peter Allan was surprised by the discovery of a treasure, but not one of those millionaire movies, but a Victorian time capsule. He found it under the floor of her house where there was a whiskey bottle with a message from 135 years ago.
As soon as he found the mysterious bottle, he rushed downstairs to tell the owner of the property in Edinburgh’s Morningside area, Scotland.
It was then that Allan and his family opened the bottle to read what the long-hidden note said.
What did the note hidden in the bottle say?
The protagonist of this story told how he came to find the bottle.
“I was moving a radiator and I cut randomly to find the pipes, and there it was,” explains Allan al BBC from Scotland.
According to the note, the the room would have been for a maid when the house was first built.
The note was signed and dated by two male workers and read: “James Ritchie and John Grieve fixed this floor, but they didn’t drink the whisky. October 6, 1887″.
Confirmation and new note
Since the find last week, a family friend has searched the 1881 census and found the names of the men who signed the note.
And precisely, when checking addresses, both they lived only a few kilometers away from the Newington area of Edinburgh.
The National Library of Scotland curator advised the family to keep the note in an acid-free pocket so it would fade over time.
Also, it spreads ACEthe family argued that will insert a new note of the family along with the transcript of the previous one, in the same hole where it was. The story must continue.
