Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission, announced on Tuesday (22) that the bloc will send another 2.5 billion euros in aid to Ukraine.
“For 2023, we have programmed 18 billion euros with regular financing for urgent repairs and a quick reboot leading to a successful restructuring.
“We will continue to support Ukraine as much as necessary,” Von der Leyen said.
The new funding package comes nearly 10 days after the European Commission announced another €1 billion grant focused on aid mechanisms for food security and medium- and long-term economic recovery for Ukrainians.
Alongside the US and the UK, the European Union is sending massive financial aid and opening special lines of credit to Kiev to defend itself and keep the economy afloat during the war that Russia launched in February.
It also sends weapons and military equipment to move around the battlefield alongside its allies.
Ukraine is in the process of accession to become a member state of the European Union.
