A woman who said she was pressured to have an abortion by Republican Senate candidate Herschel Walker on Tuesday challenged her to confront her and deny the accusation ahead of the December 6 election.
The candidate, a retired football star and politician who has made the fight against abortion the focus of his campaign, has denied even knowing the woman.
“I was in shock when you denied knowing me. We’ve been together for six years,” the accuser said tearfully at a press conference in Los Angeles on Tuesday. “You met my family.”
“Are you ready to do anything to become a Senator, including lying to Georgia voters?” the woman asked. she asked. “Do you dare come face to face with me and say that you don’t know me and that it’s a lie?”
Backed by former President Donald Trump, Walker is vying for the Georgia state Senate seat. He will face Democrat Raphael Warnock again at the ballot box after none of them gets more than half of the votes in the fiercely contested elections held on November 8th.
The accuser says she had an extramarital affair with the then Dallas Cowboys actress from 1987 to 1993, when she learned she was pregnant.
She says he pressured her to have an abortion, and when she pulled back at the clinic, Walker personally took her, paid for the procedure, and waited in the car until the end to take her home.
The 60-year-old former athlete was indicted in October by another woman who claimed she had an abortion under pressure in 2009. The marriage of his three children abroad also denies this.
“I was going to take this to the grave,” the second accuser said on Tuesday. “But in October, after the first woman accused him, I heard him say on TV that he didn’t want anyone to have an abortion. […] And I knew I was lying. I needed to talk.”
The woman showed photos, letters accompanied by famed lawyer Gloria Allred, and voicemails from a man she claimed to be Walker, declaring her love and calling her “little sex bitch.”
The race between Walker and Warnock is considered decisive after Republicans failed to control the Senate and Democrats won a small majority.
Allred said that if Walker did not respond to the challenge, “it is fair for Georgian voters to conclude that this accuser is telling the truth, that you are neither transparent nor honest.”
