An American treasure hunter found a diamond ring worth US$40,000 (equivalent to R$200,000) while working in Hammock Beach, Florida, and returned the jewelery to its owners a few weeks later.
Joseph Cook, who used a metal detector to find “lost treasures” and videotaped his finds off the coast of North America, found the material in October.
At that moment, he thought he had found a coin and was surprised to see the ring. “At first I thought it was a five-cent piece, but I dug it up and it was a giant diamond ring,” he told the New York Post.
After spending the ring about a week in storage, it went to a specialist who evaluated the platinum and diamond ring.
After the treasure hunter shared the video on social media, the owners of the ring contacted him. “They were really happy. His wife made a video call and said, ‘Oh my God, I can’t believe it,’ and she started crying,” he recalls.
Three weeks after Joseph found the ring in the sand at the beach, he found the couple who had lost the ring and returned the jewel to its place.
However, he did not detail how the ring’s owners proved that the jewel was theirs.
He reported to the press that he was not upset that he had to return the ring and said he believed in karma.
“Every time I return an item, I find something better. So I’m happy to be able to return it. I have a necklace of about twenty-five rings waiting to be reinstated,” she said.
