French justice has sentenced a French doctor wanted by police to 20 years in prison for raping dozens of children in Vietnam, judicial sources said on Thursday (24).
Olivier Larroque, 60, did not appear on the first day of his hearing, which is Monday (21), after disappearing from Justice’s radar months ago.
According to a forensic source, he was tried in absentia by a court in Paris and sentenced him to 20 years in prison for raping about 30 teenagers in Hanoi, where he worked for the French Hospital between 2011 and 2013. two lawyers.
“Justice has been served, albeit incompletely, as the accused was not present,” Christopher Mesnooh, a lawyer representing the seven victims, told AFP.
The defense regretted that the trial was conducted without the accused.
“He was given the maximum sentence for absenteeism,” attorney Camille Lucotte said.
The investigations began in early 2013 following a complaint to the French embassy in Vietnam.
A local association recalled the accusations of street children aged 13 to 15 against Larroque and videos showing the accused having sex with minors.
An investigation opened in France led to his arrest and repatriation in Hanoi in July 2013.
In front of investigators, the victims described the same “how it worked”: the accused approached them, took them to a hotel or home, and harassed them.
The doctor refused any coercion, saying that he only presented himself as a brothel client.
