A 61-year-old woman was diagnosed with lung cancer and recovered from the disease the same day. The case took place in Texas in the United States in January, but has only now been announced by the international press.
April Boudreau told the Daily Mail she only found out she had a tumor after doctors removed it. “You’re pinching yourself because you can’t believe it’s true,” she said. “Everything was very simple, no radiation or chemotherapy.”
The tumor was discovered during routine examinations. April was called to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital for a follow-up test, and during a lung biopsy, doctors confirmed that the lump was indeed early-stage lung cancer.
After detecting the cancer, the doctors decided to operate it while it was still under local anesthesia. The surgery was performed using a minimally invasive technique that uses an ultra-thin catheter guided by a robot to reach lesions in difficult-to-reach areas of the lung.
He also said that he did not wait for the diagnosis and that the only symptom he had was a little breathlessness. However, he attributed the condition to aging. He returned home the next day after the operation.
“I took painkillers for three days and that was all I needed. Three days later I was normal, walking around. I couldn’t believe it,” he said.
April had been treated for cancer three times before. She survived Hodgkin lymphoma twice, in 1984 and 1985, and breast cancer in 2002.
