A young woman died horribly after falling into an industrial potato masher. Rafaela Alves dos Santos, Aged 24, he died in the dramatic workplace accident in Perdizes, in southeastern Brazil, in the early hours of 17 November.

She reportedly fell onto a conveyor belt carrying potatoes to be cut into chips and was crushed by the engine mount.. The company Bem Brasil Alimentos, which had hired Rafaela through an external company, said it had opened an investigation into the incident.

Rafaela, originally from Santa Luzia do Itanhy, in poor northeastern Brazil, suffered a serious head injury in the dramatic accident at work.

Moments before the accident, he was separating potatoes from organic matter on the conveyor belt. The potatoes had to be made into frozen potato chips for supermarkets.

A colleague who was standing next to him at that moment told how the conveyor turned off. but suddenly it came on automatically, carrying Rafaela at full speed towards the engine mount.

Workers in charge of operations at the factory are reportedly unable to explain why the machine automatically turned on when it did.

Rafaela trained as a nursing technician but decided to move to Partridges with her older sister and two cousins ​​in search of a better life in May. Her mother, Carla Cristina Dias Alves, told local media: “She was looking for her future, she was looking for her dreams, working in her field and taking care of me.”

Carla added: “Rafaela was my love. My other daughters were jealous, because we had a really amazing bond. She was a loving, self-confident girl who loved to dress up, buy shoes, dresses, perfumes.”

“Every morning he texted me: ‘Good morning, my love.’ I didn’t say good morning today.”

Carla said she learned of her daughter’s death through local media and not through Bem Brasil Alimentos or the company through which she was hired.

Rafaela was buried in her hometown on November 19.

The investigation into his death is ongoing.
