Massacre in two schools in Brazil: three dead after a young man shoots teachers and students

At least three people died and eleven others were injured in two schools in a neighborhood of the Brazilian city of Aracruz, in the state of Espírito Santo, where an armed young man entered and shot indiscriminately at students and teachers.

The dead are two teachers and a primary school studentas declared by the Secretary of Public Security of the state of Espírito Santo, Márcio Celante, in statements to journalists.

The perpetrator of the crime would be a teenager who, with a semi-automatic pistolfirst he shot inside a school, then went to another, in the same neighborhood, to repeat the attack, and then fled.

Authorities staged a massive security operation to try and arrest the shooter, whose identity is still unknown.

According to Celante, the young man broke the padlock on the door of the first school and went into the teachers’ room during a break between lessons and opened fire on the teachers, killing two and wounding nine others.

In the second school, he shot three students, leaving one dead and two wounded, who, like the rest of the wounded, were taken to nearby hospitals.

The governor of Espíritu Santo, Renato Casagrande, confirmed the events that took place at the Bitti and Praia de Coqueiral Educational Center schools, located in the Coqueiral neighborhood of Aracruz.

He said the young man’s possible motivation is still unknown, that anyone it is suspected that he was a student of one of those schoolsprimary and secondary education.

So far, the president Jair Bolsonaro he didn’t pronounce Yes, the president-elect did. Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who sent a message of solidarity to the families. “It is with sadness that I learned of the attack on the schools in Aracruz, Espírito Santo. My sympathy with the families of the victims of this absurd tragedy. And my support for Governor Casagrande in the investigation of the case and support for the communities of the two schools affected,” he wrote on Twitter.
