According to the official report, the event occurred on Holbox Island and affected hotels Turtles and Mawimbi. It got worse because the place doesn’t have enough elements against fires and attention to this type of emergency.

Indeed, it was necessary that they were present firefighters from another municipality, because the island does not have this equipment. Such was the situation that unfolded on Monday night, that several hotel guests and local residents participated in the fire-fighting duties.

As seen in the videos uploaded on social networks, guests and people living in the immediate vicinity of the place acted quickly water buckets, pipes and water pumps.

Some time after the start of the fires, the State Civil Defense Coordination of Quintana Roo reported on its Twitter account that it had received the fire report, for which it indicated that “the state of force has been activated to deal with the situation”.

Thus, help arrived from the Civil Protection and the Fire Brigade of Cancun and Playa del Carmen, cities who sent their equipment and the elements necessary to contain the fire to Holbox.

“Regarding the Holbox fire, I have the complaint of a wounded young man, already treated and without seriousness. The @GobQuintanaRoo has made available all the resources to deal with the situation. The fire is being controlled, the fire is being put out,” the governor wrote. Mara Lezzama from his Twitter account.

Furthermore, he assured that “tourists and citizens” were “under protection” and that the information on alleged robberies was “false”.

Faced with several expressions of indignation on social networks by citizens of the area, who ensure that there are no firefighters on the island, Lezama reported that the fire was already being extinguished around 12 at night, now of Mexico. “The fire is being controlled, the fire is being put out,” he said, via his social networks.
