This is shown by the images that have arrived from the Indian media the impressive number of coins scattered on a table at Hangal Sri Kumareshwar hospital in Bagalkot city, Karnataka after they were removed following a two-hour surgery.

Other images show the coins carefully stored in a row inside the man’s stomach captured by stunned doctors during an endoscopy.

Dr Eshwar Kalaburgi, one of the professionals who treated the patient, said he he suffered from a psychiatric problem and had been swallowing these coins for the last two or three months. “He arrived at the hospital complaining of vomiting and abdominal discomfort.”

Following the two-hour operation performed on the 32-year-old man on Saturday, the patient is still in intensive care.

He was initially hospitalized with severe stomach pains, but doctors were shocked when they examined him. They initially thought it was a tumor, but scans showed a cluster of foreign bodies.

The surgeons then made incisions in the abdomen and removed the coins one by one.

“Based on your symptoms, we did an x-ray and an endoscopy and found coins in the stomach. So, we decided to make it work. The stomach was enormously distended. A bunch of coins were stuck in different places,” the doctors said.

“After the operation, we treated him for dehydration and other minor problems. The patient is stable and can speak from now on,” they reported.

Another case in Italy

“Upon further inspection, we realized the foreign bodies were steel spoons,” said Dr Khurana The national team.

“There were 63 of them. Never in my nearly 35-year career have I seen a case like this…it’s one of the rare medical cases.”
