The note states that the bishop “succeeded in turning the economy for the better” and did “a vigorous business bearing many fruits.”

????????[O Papa] He sincerely thanks Father Guerrero for his dedication in service to the Vatican,” he added from the press room.

Guerrero was nominated by Francis to replace powerful Cardinal George Pell in November 2019 and was subsequently involved in a pedophilia case. It will now be replaced by the layman Maximino Caballero Ledo, the current general secretary of the Economics Secretariat.

The dossier was created by Francis himself in February 2014 to centralize the economic administration of the Vatican, which has been shaken by a series of financial scandals. For this reason, the head of the secretariat received the nickname “Minister of the Economy”.

Ledo, a trained economist, will be the first layman to head the portfolio.
