There is no doubt that Mexico’s elimination from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar was a total failure and generated all kinds of criticism of Tata Martino’s team. But the scandal has reached such a point that politics has also entered the sports field: a local senator has asked the leaders of football in Mexico who give explanations to the Senate for the clamorous frustration.

Morena’s senator, Bertha Caraveo, requested the presence of Yon de Luisa as president of the Mexican Football Federation and Mikel Arriola as executive president of Liga MX before the Senate Youth and Sports Commission.

“The leaders of the FMF and Liga BBVA must present themselves before the Youth and Sports Commission of the Senate,” he posted on Twitter accompanied by a photo of the president of the federation, Yon de Luisa Plazas; and Mikel Arriola, president of Liga MX.

He stressed that “the reported corruption and the television conflict of interest have taken over football and today we are all paying the consequences. They must be held accountable!”

Caraveo pointed out that corruption and conflict of interest through television stations are the reason Mexican soccer has failed in this World Cup. Despite the criticisms, the senator explained that the national interest generated by football it is part of the Senate’s work in promoting high-performance sport.

Of course, several people applauded his request and even cited Gerardo Martino, now a former coach of the Mexican team, in his role as the competition’s strategist.

Will Tata Martino be summoned to the Mexican Senate?
