Photographer Khaled Al Enazi found a huge rock in the Saudi Arabian desert that caught his eye. While recording the archaeological treasures of Al-Ula District in the Asian country, he found a gigantic fish-shaped structure.
Speaking to CNN International, Al Enazi said, “As I documented the area and searched for archaeological records, I was surprised by the sight of a mountain that resembles a fish in the middle of the desert.”
Khaled named the huge rock Desert Fish (Desert Fish, free translation) because of the appearance that the rock formation retains with an aquatic presence. He believes the rock must have been seen by others before, but he was the first to photograph it from above with the help of a drone.
According to the photographer, after sharing the recordings online, some internet users even suggested that the rock might be the remains of a prehistoric marine animal “fossilized millions of years ago,” but the photographer insisted on saying “that’s not the case”.
The Al-Ula region in Saudi Arabia is the place that served as a shelter for the ancient Nabataeans, the Semites, who are the ancestors of the Arabs living in the northern part of Arabia and the southern part of Jordan.
