Murder committed 42 years ago solved by DNA test

A murder that occurred more than forty years ago was finally solved by the police in Miramar, Florida (USA) thanks to technological advances in DNA analysis.

According to the US newspaper The New York Post, 75-year-old Ronald E. Richards was indicted by a jury on January 22, 1980, for sexual assault and murder of Evelyn Marie Fisher-Bamforth. He is currently in prison in Ohio.

The man was convicted in 1982 and sentenced to 50 years in prison for separate murder and sexual assault charges in Volusia County in March 1980, according to Florida Department of Corrections records.

Currently, Richards is currently in jail in Ohio for other crimes. Evelyn’s murder has been considered by authorities as the longest running cold case in the history of the Miramar Police Department.
