Mercadante in Castillo law: ‘Latin America needs democracy’

In his first speech, Boluarte acknowledged Peruvian concerns about the “difficult situation” in the country. The new president said running Peru “won’t be an easy task”, he would prioritize the economy and fight corruption, and argued for the urgency of a political reform.

Boluarte also wanted unity and “a broad process of dialogue between all political forces represented or not in Congress” to seek the changes the country needed. The President also demanded a “political ceasefire” for the implementation of the new “government of national unity”.
