Airbnb rents out the ‘Hobbiton’: how to live like a Lord of the Rings hobbit for less than $7

Airbnb now offers the possibility to spend a few days in hobbitonthe city where the hobbits from The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit novels and films live.

I kid you not: the New Zealand set where both film trilogies were filmed will be available to be booked from December 13th. exit less than $7 a night.

The initiative was Russell Alexander, manager of the 2,500-acre farm in the Waikato region, in celebration of 10 years of The Hobbit. His idea is that guests can live a few days as if they were guests Bilbo Baggins and sleep in the famous Shire.

A complete experience

Those who request it can take advantage of three individual stays of two nights each for a maximum of four people. This “combo” costs NZ$10, or something like US$6.37 per night.

Fans of the work of JRR Tolkien they can’t complain. In addition, other scenes from the film will be available, such as 44 hobbit holes, the Sandmill, the Prancing Horse Inn.

Dining options include a nightly feast at Green Dragon, stew, chickens, breads and craft beer at Hobbits Inn, and “Second Breakfast” and “Elevenses” served daily.

Sure: there will be no parties and no pets.

How to go to Hobbiton?

“For more than two decades we have welcomed millions of passionate fans to the Hobbiton Movie Set, but never before has anyone had the chance to spend a night in Middle-earth. I am delighted to share the beauty of my family’s farm and host this iconic place through Airbnb for fans around the world,” said the host.

Reservations will be available through airbnb.es/hobbiton starting December 13 at 10pm (PST, Pacific Standard Time). To request them, the user must have a verified profile on the site, a history of positive reviews and be of age.

No more than four guests can be spread across two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the other with two king single beds.

Guests will be provided with return car transport for the journey from the airport to the farm (approximately 2 hours) but must be responsible for the arrangements and costs associated with their travel to and from Auckland.

Stays will be available from 2 to 4, 9 to 11 and 16 to 18 March 2023.

A place with history

Hobbiton is one of the most important fictional places in Tolkien’s work.

It appears in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings as one of the oldest towns in the Shire, located in the West Ridge, south of Overmont and northwest of Delagua.

Its city name is composed of Hobbit and ton, a contracted form of city, meaning “city” in English in total hobbit city.
