Officials said the city of Odessa in southern Ukraine was left without electricity after a Russian attack with “suicide drones” on Saturday (10).
“There is no electricity in the city for now,” Kyrylo Tymoshenko, Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine, said on Telegram.
Tymoshenko noted that only basic infrastructure such as hospitals and maternity wards have access to electricity.
The situation is still difficult but under control,” he said.
The governor of the Odessa region, Maxim Marchenko, claimed that Russia attacked the city with “suicide drones” overnight.
“There is no electricity in almost any neighborhood or neighborhood in our region,” he repeated after the attack.
He added that two drones were shot down by Ukrainian air defense units.
On Friday, Kiev officials said the southern regions of the country, including Odessa, are facing the worst electricity problems after the latest attacks by Russian forces on energy infrastructure.
Earlier in the week, Russia launched a new hail of missiles at power structures in Ukraine, causing power and water shortages.
Russia began attacking such infrastructure after Moscow forces suffered several military defeats on the ground.
Russian President Vladimir Putin warned on Thursday that his country will continue to bombard such infrastructures, which have already left millions of Ukrainians without electricity and heating.
The Black Sea port of Odessa was one of the most frequent destinations for Ukrainians and Russians before Russia launched its offensive against Ukraine on February 24.
