These practices violate the absolute prohibition of cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment,” said Heba Morayef, Amnesty International’s regional director for the Middle East and North Africa.

He added: “The recent establishment of a United Nations fact-finding mission to collect, consolidate and analyze evidence of such violations sends a clear message to the Iranian authorities that they can no longer commit crimes under international law and other serious violations of human rights”. humans without fear of consequences.

In addition, AI said the Iranian government harassed and intimidated the families of the victims “to force them to remain silent or to force them to accept reports that absolve the authorities of responsibility for the deaths of their loved ones in written statements or video recordings broadcast on television of state”.
