According to witnesses, a powerful explosion and gunfire were heard near a hotel frequented by Chinese visitors in the Afghan capital, Kabul, on Monday (12).
“There was a very loud explosion followed by a lot of fire,” an eyewitness told AFP. The local press also reported similar information.
Security commanders have so far not commented on the explosion in the Shahr-e-naw district, one of the capital’s main shopping districts.
A large number of Chinese businessmen have traveled to Afghanistan since the Taliban came to power.
China is one of the few countries that keeps its embassy open despite not officially recognizing the government.
The Taliban, who took power in August 2021, say security in the country has improved since then, but there are still large numbers of bombings, many of which are claimed by the local branch of ISIS (EI-K).
