BALASHIKHA, Russia (Reuters) – A shopping mall in the Moscow region was damaged in a massive fire on Monday, the second such fire in less than a week, emergency services said.
Images published on Telegram by the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations showed that a fire at a building materials hypermarket in Balashikha, a satellite town of 500,000 inhabitants on the outskirts of the Russian capital, caused part of the roof to collapse.
The ministry said the fire covered 9,000 square meters before it was brought under control. The Commission of Investigation, which is responsible for serious crimes, said it has launched an investigation.
On Friday, a fire broke out in a large shopping mall in the Moscow suburb of Khimki, killing one person and burning an area of 7,000 square meters.
