The dog named El Palomo saved his 84-year-old owner by taking him to the police. Gregorio Romero left his home on November 27 to hike in Mexico’s Moctezuma desert and has been missing for a week.
According to The New York Post, members of the National Guard, Municipal Police, and Municipal Civil Protection spent a week searching for the man, with the help of sniffer dogs. According to Romero’s nephew, he was suffering from amnesia.
That’s when the El Palomo dog was able to sniff its owner almost three miles from his home on December 4. Romero was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for two days for thirst and malnutrition. Meanwhile, El Palomo waited for its owner outside the hospital.
“El Palomo stayed outside the hospital day and night, waiting for his beloved Don Goyo to recover. [Gregorio]’, officials told The New York Post.
When Romero was discharged and went out to sunbathe, he was greeted and escorted by El Palomo.
“The pet’s unconditional love allowed Don Goyo to be reunited with his family because he brought the authorities El Palomo to his location,” the police said.
