In New Zealand, a woman was stripped of her citizenship because she was “overweight”. According to the Mirror website, Mondelea Bezuidenhout was informed that her body mass index was “too high” and was instructed to lose 30kg so she could stay in the country.
Officials said being overweight could wreak havoc on New Zealand’s healthcare system. However, Mondelea took the advice of a doctor who said she was in good health and decided to become a plus-size model.
Mondelea explained how she now works five days a week. “I’ve always been bigger than other people and accepted myself for who I am.”
Born in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, 36-year-old Mondelea Bezuidenhout has been living in the country since 2018 and requested documents to be close to her husband and young children.
