A tour guide recorded the moment he and others escaped from the newly erupted Láscar volcano in San Pedro de Atacama, Chile (10). Fearing that he might not be able to save himself, the man recorded a farewell message to the family.
“The volcano just erupted. I’m on the edge of the crater. Andrés brothers, I love you so much. I don’t know what’s going to happen. A kiss,” says the local newspaper Meganews. The person identified as Felipe says that he is meters away from the volcano, as he described in the recording, but that he liked what he experienced despite the fear.
“It was an amazing experience, I’m grateful for life,” he told the newspaper.
“It was a split second. I was scared at first but there was no major material, just ash. I was with passengers who were a little scared, but calm is always a good friend.”
Felipe says he and the group were about 50 meters from the volcano’s summit at the time of the eruption, which caused them to feel intensely the volcanic activity. They walked for about 30 minutes until they reached a safe place to protect themselves.
New visits to the volcano since Saturday laser prohibited by local authorities. The guide states that they are “strict” with the tour company and will follow “recommendations”.
