KIEV, Ukraine – The Ukrainian capital Kiev was rocked by a series of loud explosions on Wednesday.
The blasts came after air raid sirens sounded for around 30 minutes starting at 6am.
Two government buildings in Kyiv and a house in the region surrounding the capital were damaged in a drone strike, Anton Gerashchenko, deputy interior minister, said in a statement.
Oleksiy Kuleba, head of the Kyiv region, said the air defense system has achieved more targets in the region and urged residents to stay in shelters.

Yaroslav Vinokurov, 24, was inspecting his car, which was destroyed in Wednesday’s explosions.
The roof of a building near his home had been blown in, and windows throughout the neighborhood had been blown out.
The Ukrainian Air Force warned in recent days that the Russian military was launching more attacks with Drones under cover of night to deplete Ukraine’s limited stocks of radar-based air defense missiles.
In daylight, Ukrainian soldiers can use large-caliber machine guns or other small arms to attack drones.
